The advent of these technologies will likely automate routine tasks, freeing up human capacity for more complex, creative, and strategic endeavors. When knowledge becomes a free commodity, accessible in any context and form, it will fundamentally shift our focus from information acquisition to information application. We will no longer be valued for what we know, but for how we use what we know. This shift will necessitate a reevaluation of our skills and competencies, emphasizing critical thinking, creativity, emotional intelligence, and adaptability. In this new era, where we seemingly have met our master in AI, it’s crucial to remember that these technologies are tools designed to augment human capabilities, not replace them. Bridging the Gap: The Irreplaceable Value of Human Connection in the Age of AI and Automation
I understand your concerns. In a world where AI and automation are rapidly advancing, it’s natural to question the future relevance of our skills. However, your ability to act as a bridge between highly trained individuals, investors, government agencies, and a broader audience is a unique and valuable skill. This ability to understand complex processes and communicate their importance effectively is not easily replicated by technology. In fact, as technology continues to evolve, your role could become even more crucial. As we move into an era where knowledge is freely available, the ability to interpret, contextualize, and communicate this information effectively will be in high demand. Your skills in connecting technology to need, in making people understand why it matters, will be essential in this new landscape. So, while the tools we use may change, the human element - the ability to connect, communicate, and inspire - remains irreplaceable.
From Industry 3.0 to AI Revolution: A Rapid Technological Evolution in Just Six Years
Reflecting on my journey, it’s astounding to realize that it’s been only six years since I was touring the globe with Schneider Electrics, speaking about Industry 3.0 and Automation. At the time, these systems represented the pinnacle of technological advancement. However, in the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, they now seem akin to manual calculators when compared to the capabilities offered by AI today. This exponential growth in technology underscores the incredible pace of innovation and the transformative power of AI. It’s a testament to how quickly our world is changing and a reminder that we must continually adapt and evolve to keep pace with these advancements.

Disrupting your Personal and Work Life to Save Money, and Add Quality Time Now
Embracing frugality doesn’t mean compromising on the quality of life. In fact, it can enhance it. Several years ago, I was caught in a cycle of earning and spending, constantly striving for more, yet never feeling fulfilled. This workaholic lifestyle was depleting my spirit and health. That’s when I decided to shift my paradigm. I started focusing on what truly mattered - my health, relationships, and personal growth. I realized that the most valuable things in life aren’t things at all. By adopting a frugal lifestyle, I was able to reduce financial stress, live more sustainably, and invest in experiences rather than material possessions. This shift not only improved my financial health but also allowed me to live a more balanced, fulfilling, and meaningful life.
- Dramatically Lowering Living Costs: Remember, every dollar saved is indeed a dollar earned. I’ve managed to significantly reduce my cost of living, which has had a profound impact on my financial health. One of the key strategies I’ve employed is optimizing my tax structure. By leveraging a multi-jurisdiction work-life tax structure, I’ve been able to minimize my tax liabilities. As a former German tax resident, this strategy has allowed me to save an impressive 50% of our family income. The savings are substantial and have contributed greatly to improving our quality of life.
- Significantly Cutting Business Expenses: I’ve made strategic changes to drastically reduce the operational costs of my businesses. I’ve eliminated unnecessary expenses such as office space, company cars, and phone systems. Instead, I’ve embraced remote work and digital communication tools. I’ve also established collaborations with universities to host our lab, which has significantly reduced our overhead costs. Additionally, I’ve streamlined our team, keeping only essential staff on payroll and outsourcing specific tasks to high-quality contractors in lower-cost regions. These changes have not only reduced expenses but also increased efficiency and productivity.
- Transforming Liabilities into Assets: I’ve made a conscious decision to eliminate all status symbols from my life, focusing instead on turning potential liabilities into assets. For instance, instead of leaving our home vacant when we travel, we rent or swap it, which not only saves us money but also generates income. This approach extends to our vehicles as well - we return our scooters when we’re not at home to avoid unnecessary costs. This mindset shift has allowed us to enjoy our travels more, knowing that our assets are working for us, not sitting idle and draining resources.
- Embracing Remote Work and Leveraging AI & Automation: I’ve adopted a ‘remote-first’ approach to work, which has not only reduced overhead costs but also increased flexibility and productivity. Additionally, I’ve integrated AI and automation into our operations wherever possible. These technologies have streamlined our processes, eliminated repetitive tasks, and allowed us to focus on more strategic and creative aspects of our work. This forward-thinking approach has been instrumental in enhancing efficiency and driving growth.
Adding Value to Life: Prioritizing Relationships, Health, and Well-being Over Material Pursuits
While it’s true that I’ve made significant cuts in my life, it’s equally important to highlight what I’ve added. I’ve enriched my life with meaningful friendships and relationships that aren’t centered around deals or transactions. For the first time, I’m truly present to witness my children grow up. I’ve dedicated more time to connect deeply with my wife, strengthening our bond. I’ve prioritized self-care, ensuring I get enough sleep and regular exercise. I’ve made healthier food choices and reduced my alcohol intake. These additions have improved my physical health and significantly enhanced my emotional well-being and overall quality of life.
Embracing the Bali State of Mind: A Journey of Personal Transformation and Well-being
The benefits of embracing the Bali state of mind have been transformative for me. I’ve lost 15 Kg and improved my overall health significantly. Cutting out junk food has not only contributed to my weight loss but also improved my sleep patterns, even with two little children. I’ve found time to engage in activities I love, like producing music, and we enjoy an incredible social life. My focus on work has never been sharper, with distractions minimized. The ability to travel with my family while working has blurred the lines between work and vacation, creating a constant state of ‘workation’. As for the cost, our lifestyle costs us about $72,000 per year before taxes. This includes a luxury home, childcare, dining out 12 times a week, travels, personal trainers, two nannies, a gardener, pool maintenance, transportation, insurance, and more. It’s a fulfilling and balanced life that’s surprisingly affordable.
Best wishes and warm regards,
Julien
